The Day I Found Myself Alone
One day my house is full.
Dogs, children, families, couples.
Then it suddenly isn’t.
In one day my son goes to college, my husband moves out, even the dog dies days later.
I am alone. With my thoughts. With my memories. With my future.
My career is now in the distant past.
My baby is in college
Families have changed.
Friends have changed.
Life is not as it was or as expected. Yet, I have never felt less lonely than I do now.
My son is happy and thriving.
My relationships are stronger and deeper.
My friendships are truer.
I am alone but I am not lonely.
Finally.
Life is funny like that.
Perspective is funny like that.
My life is not what I expected.
I did not expect to be retired, separated and at a pivotal point in life at 52.
And maybe this is another lesson.
Don’t have expectations.
Life is unpredictable.
And expectations only limit.
So I don’t know what is next.
And I have no expectations.
Life is limitless.
